Geothermal Power

There are two basic types of geothermal power.  The one most often thought of is the type used in places like Iceland, California and New Zealand.  This uses naturally occurring hot water and steam in volcanic areas. One disadvantage of this system in certain areas is that it will destroy natural features including geysers.  The geysers in Yellowstone hare protected by law.  However there are many areas where this does not hapopen.

This system is used very effectively in limited areas, but cannot be used in Australia which has no suitable volcanic areas.

The other type involves using hot rocks which are dry.  Then you can pump cool water down a deep bore and bring it up from another bore hot.
